Moonlight Mile manga creator Yasuo Ohtagaki announced on his Twitter account that he is streaming a live sketching session on the Ustream service on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Japan Time (Thursday at 2:00 a.m. EDT). Ohtagaki decided to do this live drawing session after talking about his manga storyboards on Twitter and receiving a flood of responses from people who wanted to see his sketches for the manga. He will be drawing mostly characters in this session, as requested by people.

ADV Films licensed the television anime adaptation of the Moonlight Mile space adventure manga, and Funimation has since picked up the rights to release the anime.

Satoshi Kaneda returns to direct the second film with Yasuka Saitou (live-action The Prince of Tennis) reprising his role of Tachibana. However, there are two new main characters: an advertising agency’s IT worker named Hirofumi (Makoto Ueunobori) and a high-level agency employee named Shinji (Ryūnosuke Kawai). The film will open in Japan on August 7.

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Takaya Kagami’s Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu (The Legend of the Legendary Heroes) fantasy light novel franchise began streaming a 30-second television commercial video via the YouTube video service on Tuesday. Both the official website and YouTube are still streaming the previous promotional videos. The Legend of the Legendary Heroes anime will premiere on July 1.

The official website for the Strike Witches television anime franchise has begun streaming three promotional commercials for the second anime season on Wednesday. Like the first season, Strike Witches 2 adapts Humikane Shimada’s mecha-girl illustrations. The anime studio AIC is animating the second season instead of GONZO for a July 7 premiere.

G-Gundam’s original director Yasuhiro Imagawa is scripting the tentatively titled Kidō Butōden G-Gundam the Comic (Mobile Fighter G Gundam the Comic), while Kazuhiko Shimamoto (Blazing Transfer Student, The Skull Man) and his Honō Production studio are drawing the actual manga.

With G-Gundam in 1994-1995, Imagawa (Giant Robo, Seven of Seven) co-developed the first Gundam television series that was not set in the Universal Century timeline of the original Gundam anime. It re-imagined Gundam’s robotic mobile suits as mobile fighter units that battle in tournaments every four years. Shimamoto had collaborated on the character designs for the G-Gundam anime.

Koichi Tokita (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Astray) had actually drawn a three-volume Mobile Fighter G Gundam manga during the anime’s 1994-1995 broadcast run in Japan. Tokyopop published that earlier manga in North America shortly after Cartoon Network ran the anime in the United States.

The only other Blu-ray release to rank #1 on the Japanese chart for four straight weeks was Biohazard: Degeneration (Resident Evil: Degeneration), which was released in late December of 2008.

The second film in Hideaki Anno and Khara’s four-film remake of Gainax’s Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series has now sold 419,000 copies and continues to be the top Blu-ray release in Japan in the format’s short two-year history. (In its first week of sales, the film had already topped the previous record holder, the 351,000 copies of Michael Jackson’s This Is It film.)

The official Twitter account for the Angel Beats! television anime series noted on Wednesday that the first Blu-ray Disc volume topped the daily sales chart that was released on Tuesday. According to Aniplex’s publicity representative Yuma Takahashi (”Aniplex Yuma”), the first volume has sold over 15,000 copies on Blu-ray and DVD. Oricon reports that the DVD version was the #6 selling DVD release of the day.
